Everything You Need to Know to Stay Compliant and Safe at MJBizCon 2022

The cannabis industry is all about compliance, and MJBizCon, the industry's most significant conference, is no different. Here's what you need to know.

MJBizCon might sound like an excellent opportunity to cut loose. The combination of cannabis visionaries and Las Vegas must be an endless party. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right?

Not exactly.

MJBizCon is an undeniably good time. But the folks behind the event take their rules and regulations seriously. A violation can more than ruin your experience and potentially cost you money.

Here’s how to stay compliant while at the conference, saving wild times for the numerous MJBizCon after-parties.

MJBizCon Booths

MJBizCon booths are all about branding. Excellent graphics, displays, swag, and an unforgettable brand presence mean you’re ready to make your mark.

One thing you can’t display, though, is actual cannabis.
MJBizCon prevents exhibitors from displaying the following:

  • Cannabis
  • THC
  • Hemp products
  • Flowers
  • Seeds
  • Concentrates
  • Topicals
  • Edibles

This list applies to all cannabis-related products (including CBD). It’s also applicable to official vendors and suppliers on the expo floor and to conference satellite locations.

While preventing the display of cannabis products might seem limiting, our team doesn’t view it that way. Instead, we see it as an opportunity to highlight creativity.

Clever conference branding sets you up for success. It helps you test strategies for appealing to consumers with aesthetic choices, copy, and overall brand presence.

Giveaways

At most conferences, brands will be handing out samples and freebies left and right. Not so at MJBizCon—or well, not in the way you’d think.

There’s one rule to remember: no free samples or sales of cannabis products.

Although cannabis is legal in Nevada, private businesses (like the conference centers and hotels that host MJBizCon) can decide when, if, and how they’re comfortable with people consuming cannabis on-site.

This means that vendors and attendees can’t circulate their products within the conference, including (no surprise, it’s the same list as above):

  • Cannabis
  • THC
  • Hemp products
  • Flowers
  • Seeds
  • Concentrates
  • Topicals
  • Edibles

Just like the display list, this includes both THC and CBD products. You’ll have to wait until you’re offsite to consume samples.

ALLOWED FREE SAMPLES

Just because you can’t sling hash like Cheech and Chong doesn’t mean you’re out of luck—there is one category of free samples that the MJBizCon allows, although they cannot be sold.

Non-edible CBD products, such as oils and topicals, can be offered as free samples during the conference.

So, suppose those products are in your lineup. In that case, you can make a statement during the conference and give people something to take home and remember.

Photography and Videography

We know you want to show off your MJBizCon swag, and if you keep it to Instagram, you’re cool. But don’t break out the DSLR unless conference organizers give you the go-ahead.

Filming and photography are against MJBizCon rules unless you have a formal Press Pass issued by event organizers (which you can register for here).

And even if you’re press, there are certain things you can’t record unless you’re an official MJBizCon representative (in which case, why are you reading this article?).

Audio or video recording during sessions is only permitted in an official capacity.

Public Health and Safety

Last but not least, let’s cover the topic on everyone’s mind: staying safe at MJBizCon in the wake of COVID-19.

Freeman designed an online portal where you can find tips for safely returning to the in-person exhibition. They also assembled a top five list of tips for staying safe:

  • Strategize your audience approach
  • Re-imagine your booth design
  • Evaluate a hybrid booth approach
  • Create safe networking opportunities during the show
  • Stay connected to your audience post-show

They’ve implemented several conference-wide design decisions to make the MJBizCon experience safer and created clear dividers to protect the employees staffing your booth and greenery dividers to reduce airflow between booths and hand sanitizing stations.

Signage will provide safety directives, like masking, temperature check, and social distancing protocols. These steps will help you have your safest and most fun MJBizCon experience!

We hope our hard-earned tips help set you up for success! And if you’re attending MJBizCon this year, stop by and say hi. The Hybrid team will be there, and we can’t wait to meet you.
